Illuminated… Photography Mentoring

I recently wrote a breakout session or mini workshop for Clickin Moms; Illuminated | Backlighting with Vision… you can find it here if you are interested in learning more. So far the reviews have been amazing and I am so thankful for the many photographers that have joined me in this workshop. While I have been a mentor on Clickin Moms for about eight months now, I have also been doing a little big of planning here to do more mentoring in person for photographers. It’s been something that I have wanted to do for a while and I’ve been working on the logistics of it I suppose for about six months. So, without further adieu I’d like to announce my newest venture in the photography world… Illuminated.

Photography is so much about light, the study of how it interacts with its surroundings but even more so the light that you find within your work that speaks to you and speaks to those who see it. I love being able to help others down that path and I have been doing online mentoring for quite some time now and I’m absolutely thrilled to be able to now introduce in person photography mentoring. From those that are just starting out to photographers who have already started their path in photography I have created an experience to help you dig into who YOU are as an artist, as a photographer, and as a business owner. Each mentoring session is completely unique to YOU. Since photography isn’t a one-size-fits-all, why should your mentoring session be? Many of the photographers I have already worked with say that I am an open book and very giving with my knowledge, so I want to take that and then help you mold it to fit you and your style, both in photography and even in your business.

No secret… photography workshop

It’s not a secret that I LOVE backlighting. I love the gooey magical amazingness that I can achieve with the different styles of backlighting. So, when I decided to create a breakout for Clickin Moms recently, you know I was going to focus on this. So, over several months I poured my heart, soul and knowledge of everything backlighting into a mini workshop for you. If you are into photography and learning about photography styles and using light this is a great way to explore backlighting and using it in order to achieve the style and vision that you have for your own photography. There is a 72 page PDF book, 10 workflow actions, 1 30-minute long shooting video of me in action, 1 1-hour long editing video so that you can see my full workflow and finally a set of 5×7 diagrams with corresponding images for different backlighting situations. Hello there… houston family photographer

A few months ago I hired the wonderful people over at A&A Video to help me create a video that would show you a little bit more about me and how I work and why I chose to be a photographer. Welllll… I finally got the completed video and I’m so very excited to share it with everyone today!!! I want to tell the families that were there with us thank you as well as our very generous hostess!!! They were so sweet and wonderful and we had such a great time filming this…

P.S…. I’m totally uncomfortable in front of a video camera and I’m a big dork. ;o)

Big News… Tomball Photography Studio

As I said last week, I have some BIG news… I’m still in disbelief as I sit here writing this blog. When I first started out in this business I didn’t know what was in store for me exactly…. I knew what I wanted and I knew it was going to take a LOT of work. I have always dreamed of having a space to work out of in a cute boutique setting. When I found a property that fit this description and was up for lease I knew it was perfect for me. So after a lot of thought and a lot of discussing with my friends and family (who have been wonderfully supportive and helpful) I’ve signed a lease for a ridiculously cute space that Jennifer Dell Photography will now call home. With my new space I will be able to do more stylized mini-sessions as well as boudoir sessions (if you didn’t know I did that check out my boudoir site here). I will also be holding my photography classes for parents here too, which there will be a date announced for the next one this week.

I’m a little bit anxious and a wee bit nervous but mostly crazy excited to see where this new journey takes me. The new studio will be located in the Relics By the Railroad shopping area on Commerce Street in Tomball and I’ll be officially opening my doors on May 1st. I will also be hosting a girls day out event with a few really cool vendors (jewelry, children’s clothing, accessories, etc) to celebrate the grand opening the first weekend in May… to get your invitation please be sure to sign up for the newsletter (over on the left of the page) it’s going to be a lot of fun! I have just learned that I have been accepted as an official Tiny Sparrow Affiliate Photographer. Giving back through photography is incredibly important to me and I honestly cannot think of a better organization than Tiny Sparrow to be involved with. I am honored to be able to work with them and help families with children facing life threatening illness.

A little about Tiny Sparrow (from their website): The Tiny Sparrow Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing lasting memories through the beautiful art of photography to the families with children who are facing life threatening illnesses. In celebration of my new all-inclusive sessions I’m going to have a facebook contest! Sound like fun!? I thought so!

The Prize:

One free mini session, 20 min long, to be held in the Tomball/Cypress/Spring area and five digital files. This is a perfect way to get your card photos for the Holiday season!

jackson… houston baby and newborn photographer

I met Jackson a couple of weeks ago, but have been so busy I haven’t had a chance to blog his session! I’ve been waiting for Mr. Jackson to arrive for a while now, you see, his Mama and I are good friends and this little guy is almost like one of my own. He is so sweet and snuggily and I cannot wait until I get to see him again. And oh, my, gosh was he an awesome sleeper! I only wish my kiddos had slept half this well when they were newborns.

On a side note, my website is *almost* done!!!! There will be some really fun new features that I cannot wait to share with my clients! Including… a mini website for each new client to share their images with! There will also be a ton of new resources for y’all to check out prior to and after a session… how cool is that!? Eek! So happy that it is almost finished!!!!
